A court in Lofoten, Northern Norway, has convicted a fish processing facility in Finnmark for exploiting 11 workers from Lithuania who were not compensated with overtime pay even after working considerable amounts of extra hours.
News bureau NTB reported that Norwegian colleagues at the firm received overtime pay, but not the foreign labourers. The firm, which was not identified, was ordered to pay a total of NOK 431,049 in back pay to its Lithuanian workers.
The firm was also ordered to pay a total of NOK 3.7 million in compensation for economic losses suffered by the workers when they also were unlawfully dismissed. The former leader of the firm was held personally liable to pay more than NOK 2 million of the amount since the firm filed for bankrupcty.
