Roads were closed, train service disrupted and homes flooded after more heavy rain swept through much of central Norway this week. A landslide Tuesday spread mud, rocks and floodwaters over the main E6 highway near Ringebu, closing it in both directions.
The Dovrebanen train line between Oslo and Trondheim was also halted, after the state agency in charge of tracks and infrastructure (BaneNor) feared more slides. Both the E6 and the train line were shut down between Brumunddal and Moelv as well.
More than 30 county roads in southern and central were also closed because of flooding and mudslides. Ringsaker between Hamar and Lillehammer was hit hardest, but roads were also closed around Stange, Kongsvinger, Trysil, Øyer, Gausdal, and in the counties of Vestlandet and Trøndelag. The E6, which runs the length of Norway from Svinesund in the south to Kirkenes in the north, was also closed between Malvik and Stjørdal.
State officials warned that because of more rain in the forecast and floodwaters heading south, the danger and disruptions wouldn’t end soon. The blockages along the E6 could not be opened as of Tuesday evening, with traffic rerouted through Østerdalen in the east.
